Map the Unseen Suriname

What happens when you try to virtually walk through Suriname?

During an internet fieldwork session in September 2026, I opened Google Maps and tried to explore Suriname with Street View.

Something unexpected happened.

In many places I could find isolated 360° panoramas, but I could not continue walking down the road. The next Street View arrow simply wasn't there.

A small blank space on the digital map.

Google Maps explains that blue lines indicate connected Street View coverage. Contributors can also publish outdoor 360° imagery.

Could people living in or visiting Suriname help make more of the country virtually walkable?

Explore the gap

Open Suriname in Google Maps and see where Street View ends.

Help map it

If you have compatible 360° equipment, Google Street View Studio allows outdoor 360° video with location data to be published as Street View imagery.

The experiment

This page does not try to solve the problem yet. It simply puts the idea into the world and waits to see if anyone responds.

If people show interest, this experiment may later become a collaborative project for finding and mapping uncovered roads in Suriname.
